💚Please be aware that the green lanyard means they are children under 18. Please treat everyone with kindness and respect 💚
@@basketball_vic have launched a campaign to help provide appropriate environments for referees under the age of 18.
All officials should be respected, be free from abuse and feel safe which is why we launched the “NO REF, NO PLAY” campaign in 2022, which is still relevant today.
“IF THEIR WHISTLE IS GREEN, THEY ARE UNDER 18” campaign is focussing on our most vulnerable officials, as they are more easily influenced.
The intention of this campaign is to encourage those at games to publicly highlight just how incredible these children are for taking up a such a challenging role.
As community sport relies heavily on those under 18 to officiate our game, it is our responsibility to ensure we provide a positive environment to safeguard and retain them to ensure the future success of the sport we love.
So to help our community recognise a referee that is under the age of 18 we have specifically designed, green whistles and lanyards- which you will see at your community basketball stadium.
